Matsya Mahotsav 2025: report of proceedings.

The third Matsya Mahotsav was held on the morning of January 18, 2025, at the Salt Lake reserve. Two hundred and forty member households were present, alongside fourteen partner kitchens and seven steward families. What follows is a record of the proceedings.

The four announcements

  1. 01The Reserve Water Index will be published openly, quarterly, from FY26.
  2. 02A second cold hub will open in Howrah by the start of monsoon.
  3. 03Three new steward families have been confirmed for the 2025 cycle.
  4. 04The hilsa allocation window will shrink from five weeks to four.
A festival is not a launch. It is a yearly accounting — done in public.

Allocations honoured

Of the 240 households served during the morning, 100% received their allocation. No substitutions. The full table of allocations by tier and pond is appended to the member proceedings PDF.

Key takeaways
  • 240 households served at the 2025 Mahotsav with zero substitution.
  • Four reserve-wide announcements made publicly; full proceedings published to members.
  • Hilsa allocation window tightened to four weeks for the coming season.
